Best DAKboard Alternatives

DAKboard is a simple and easy way to display calendar, weather, images, news, updates and other day-to-day applications on a digital display device.

Whether it’s your home or office, it can be a great means to stay abreast of everyday things without missing anything important.

However, DAKboard is not the only digital display platform to consider. You can find some good alternatives to DAKboard including Mango Display, Skylight Calendar, MagicMirror among others.

In this article, we will not only discuss these at length but we will also take a look at other digital calendar options for computers and other devices.

So stay right here.

Best DAKboard Alternatives

1. Mango Display

Mango Display is a display app that allows you to customize your TV monitor or browser screen and display a calendar, videos, documents, notes, and more.

It works on a wide range of devices, including not just Android tablets, iPads, and Fire tablets, but also the following TVs:

  • LG TV
  • Samsung TV
  • Android TV/Stick
  • Fire TV/Stick

Setup is easy. You’ll just download Mango Display on one of those devices, set up Mango Display on your laptop, and mirror it to your TV using your TV’s unique ID code.

You will be able to customize your display screen, choosing from numerous available templates, depending on what you want to show on your screen.

If you have a device not listed above, don’t worry. You can still use Mango Display in your browser, whether you are using Windows, Mac, Linux, or any smart TV with a browser.

Just select the appropriate option when setting up your display, as shown in the following screenshot.

If you set it up on a browser, you will get a special URL instead of a code; paste that URL into the browser you want to use Mango Display on to set up the display there.

When setting it up, there are several themes to choose from, including Simple, Dark Mode, Modern, and others. You can always switch your theme later, so don’t spend too much time thinking about it.

Then, you’ll need to select a template. Numerous templates are available, and while they are free to use, some may contain premium widgets that would require a subscription.

One thing that really makes Mango Display easy to customize is its drag-and-drop editor. You can move widgets around to where you want them to appear and easily drag new widgets to the display by selecting them from the Widgets and Layers drop-down menu.

Overall, Mango Display is easy to use and set up, and I really enjoyed the way it looked and the customization it offered. While not all widgets are available on the free plan, you can still use a template that incorporates premium widgets on a free plan (without access to those exact widgets, of course).

Also, premium plans are affordable, starting from just $2.99/month, making it more affordable than DAKboard. However, I chose it as the #1 alternative to DAKboard not only because of that but also because it is so incredibly intuitive and easy to customize.

2. Hearth Display

Next on our list is Hearth Display, an interesting DAKboard alternative designed for families who want to share a display to better organize chores, tasks, and other family responsibilities.

The app allows you to set up multiple profiles for your family members. All of them will be displayed on the Hearth display monitor, which you will have to buy separately.

It uses a Kanban board, something you may be familiar with if you have used other types of team management and workflow tools like Trello. Each person in the family will get their own column, with cards displaying information about each task.

These cards can easily be dragged and dropped from one column to another. You can also set up auto-repeating tasks for things like watering the plants or washing the dishes.

The streaks feature helps motivate your family members to complete their tasks. It tracks how often a task was completed.

Hearth can be integrated with your existing Google or Apple iCal calendar, allowing you to quickly import appointments and other events. Hearth Display is also working on additional integrations, such as Outlook.

Not only that, but Hearth has an AI tool that will convert information from physical calendars to digital calendars. For example, if your kid got a calendar from school, just snap a picture of it and let the Hearth AI import the events.

It’s great for families with kids and teenagers, because you can create daily morning routines with tasks that your kids must check off, one by one, each day. These routines help develop good time management skills.

You can set up and control Hearth via the web app, although Android and iOS companion apps are being planned for a 2024 release. The Hearth web app allows you to control the display on the Hearth monitor.

Just to clarify, in case things weren’t clear: You’ll need to buy a Heart monitor, which costs $699 (one-time fee), and also a Hearth Family Membership plan, which involves a monthly fee.

If you only buy the Hearth monitor without the Family Membership plan, you can still use it as a calendar management app and even sync existing calendars like Google Calendar, but you will be missing out on the family task management features.

As I said, the price for the monitor is usually $699, while the price for the monthly plan starts at $9/month. However, discounts may be available, so see here for updated pricing and for information on how to make a deposit for a preorder (the first units are scheduled to be shipped in 2024).

3. Skylight Calendar

Skylight Calendar is another good alternative to DAKboard for families who want to organize their chores and responsibilities. It’s a digital monitor that you can mount on your wall and which will display a calendar, complete with tasks, chores, and more.

You will have to buy the monitor separately. This monitor only displays the Skylight calendar, and while it requires a Wifi connection to work, it can’t access social media or internet browsing.

Using the Skylight mobile app, you can set up and control the display on the digital calendar. You can set up chore charts for different members of your family and create to-do or grocery lists so that you never have to worry about chores not getting done or groceries not being bought.

Each member of the family will get a unique color on the app. In addition to color coding, the app is customizable in other ways – you can change the font and calendar view.

Meal planning is another useful feature of Skylight Calendar, as it allows you to plan your family dinners and meals. Weather forecasting is also built in, so you can easily check the forecasted weather for the day.

Skylight integrates with different calendars such as Google, Apple, and Yahoo; in fact, any calendar with a link that allows you to publicly share the calendar is supported. This allows you to easily import events.

Another way to add appointments and events to Skylight is to simply add your Skylight email address (each calendar gets a unique email address) as an attendee for events. This way, event reminders sent to that email address will automatically get imported.

With Skylight Calendar Plus, you can turn the display into a screensaver that displays your precious family photos when you are not actively using the monitor. Simply email your photos to your Skylight calendar’s unique email address to upload them to the photo album.

With Calendar Plus, you can also forward emails and PDFs to Skylight, and it will automatically import events. This is useful if your child’s school sends event notifications via email.

Skylight Calendar comes in two sizes: 10 inch and 15 inch. Prices are $159 and $299, depending on the size of the monitor.

Fortunately, there is no recurring fee to use Skylight Calendar once you buy the monitor. However, if you opt to subscribe to Plus, it will cost $39/month.

See updated pricing by clicking on the Buy Now button at the top of the page.

Make sure to get the Skylight Calendar and not the Skylight Photo Frame, a separate product which is simply a digital monitor that displays family photos – basically, a digital photo frame.

4. MagicMirror

If you like open source and have a Raspberry Pi, MagicMirror is the DAKboard alternative for you. This open-source project allows you to set up a display containing a calendar, a to-do list, weather forecasting, and a lot more!

The API allows anyone to add modules, so there is a lot of functionality available. Here are some of the modules already created:

  • Display a Bitcoin ticker price.
  • Display your Bitcoin balance from Coinbase.
  • Keep track of your blood glucose levels.
  • Show reminders to drink enough water.
  • Show a Spanish word of the day to learn a bit of Spanish every day.
  • Show news, sports, and gaming updates from various sources.
  • Display multiple mini calendars.
  • Play music from Deezer in the background.
  • Turn off the display using motion detection when not in use.
  • See the Cyanide and Happiness comic of the day.
  • Show cheesy dad jokes on the display.
  • Show random GIFs.
  • Show a random fish every day.
  • Display the Encyclopedia of Life.
  • Show a countdown to an event.

There is a huge list of modules, and there are too many to go through all of them. Some of them are practical and very useful, while others are simply funny and have no real purpose.

However, you can see all available modules here.

All in all, MagicMirror is a lot more customizable than DAKboard and offers more integrations and functionalities. Nevertheless, it requires some more technical knowledge, so if you aren’t experienced with Raspberry Pi or coding, it might be difficult for you to set it up.

5. Echo Show 15

Finally, we have the Echo Show 15, a 15.6-inch display from Amazon that will not only allow you to display a calendar, notes, and to-do tasks but also stream millions of movies and TV episodes.

It comes with Fire TV installed, and you can watch Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and other streaming apps, depending on the subscriptions you have.

Since it supports Alexa voice commands, it is easy to control the display remotely and start watching TV while relaxing on your couch. You won’t have to get up to program the display physically.

You can also use Alexa to order food or items online, get recipes, and more!

Besides Alexa, it comes with a remote control, so you can control it from your couch if you don’t like using Alexa.

The display also supports all sorts of widgets, such as digital sticky notes that can replace those annoying physical post-it notes that keep falling on the floor or cluttering up your fridge or front door. It also integrates with Amazon Photos, allowing you to display your family photos and albums.

It has a built-in camera shutter to block the camera and protect your privacy. You can also easily turn off the camera and microphone with a click of a button.

Best DAKboard Digital Calendar Alternatives for Computers & Other Devices

More people than ever are working from home today. Computers, tablets or smartphones, are not mere means to entertainment but rather essential aids in fulfilling work responsibilities.

This means we spend eight to ten hours on these gadgets alone doing office work. To carry out our work effectively, we all have productivity applications on our systems.

Calendar is one out of many tools that we can’t do without. Not only does it act as a time management tool but a planner that helps to track events, appointments, and meetings.

If you aren’t happy with your default calendar application, these digital calendar alternatives to DAKboard would do the job perfectly well.

6. CalenGoo

Most people love Google Calendar for two reasons. It integrates well with Gmail and other products from Google and has a very simple yet efficient approach.

However, not every Google Calendar user is a big fan of its editability and smartphone compatibility.

That’s why CalenGoo is a great DAKboard alternative. It takes the best features of Google Calendar, and puts them into a modern calendar app that corrects the flaws.

CalenGoo is accessible across all devices and easily customized, which is a huge advantage over Google Calendar.

The biggest advantage of CalenGoo advantage over DAKboard is using the app without internet access. Therefore, if you have bad reception or a long subway ride awaits you, you can still update your calendar and access your to-do list.

We can all agree that DAKboard has a sleek and attractive interface. However, another advantage of CalenGoo is that it is based on the colors we all know (Google Calendar colors) combined with a simple monthly view.

This is enough for most people, yet CalenGoo didn’t stop there.

With CalenGoo, you can add unlimited reminders and events without experiencing any limitations.

That said, you can think of CalenGoo as a crossover between Google Calendars and DAKboard to create a simple but efficient alternative that provides more freedom to its users.

CalenGoo is compatible with all operating systems, and the desktop version offers a free trial. The mobile phone app costs only $5.99.

7. Rainlendar

Are you a Windows enthusiast who desires a calendar that is not only simple but also unobtrusive?

If yes, then Rainlendar is an excellent alternative for you. It is more than just a calendar while ensuring you are not interrupted throughout the day.

Rainlendar works differently than DAKboard. The biggest benefit of Rainlendar is that it can work as a widget in the background.

From the moment you turn on your computer to the moment you turn it off, Rainlendar will serve as a desktop widget calendar.

Below the calendar, you will have a quick insight into your events and to-do tasks, so you can keep track of everything you have to do.

Even though it’s only a widget, Rainlendar is very customizable. I believe the biggest advantage over DAKboard is the alarm.

Since Rainlendar works as a widget where you can quickly schedule events or add things to your to-do list, it will run in the background as long as your computer is on. A silent alarm will keep you notified of upcoming events or to-do tasks.

Rainlendar can be integrated with third-party options, such as Outlook, so all your Outlook events can be added to Rainlendar with only a few clicks.

DAKboard has a great approach, but Rainlendar has an interesting approach that can benefit people who don’t always have the time to check it in the app.

Instead, you can benefit from Rainlendar since it’s lightweight and can run in the background the whole time you use the computer without noticing it until it notifies you about an event or task you must do.

Therefore, Rainlendar reminds me of an actual calendar you would have on your wall with a modern approach that helps you focus on your tasks and worry less about planning.

Rainlendar is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux but not with smartphone devices. The Rainlendar Lite version is free, and the Rainlendar Pro version costs only $11.73.

8. TimeTree

If you are in love with DAKboard and miss the communication aspect of sharing the calendar and tasks with others, TimeTree is a great alternative.

TimeTree is a shared communication calendar that gives users full communication ability with the help of social shares.

TimeTree excels over DAKboard because you can keep multiple calendars that you can share with different groups. Therefore, you can have one calendar for your personal life, one for your family, one for your work, and one for your friends.

The biggest benefit is the chat room that allows calendar users to share their thoughts or opinions. However, on top of the chatroom, you can leave comments only on certain tasks or events on the calendar.

The to-do list is another great aspect that simplifies time management but also improves the standard to-do list with the help of simple notes anyone can leave.

What I like the most is the ability to list all the upcoming events to make changes without ever feeling rushed.

TimeTree’s biggest advantage over DAKboard is its communication and sharing ability but it’s also free and available on all platforms, including Windows, Mac OS, iOS, and Android.

No premium features are hidden in the paid versions, which is one of many reasons why people choose TimeTree over any other digital calendar.

9. Calendar Widget: Month

If you know Candi Apps, you’d know that you can expect only the most modern, futuristic solution that’s combined with a simple and convenient experience.

Calendar Widget: Month is considered an enhanced collection of calendar widgets that looks attractive, modern, beautiful, and, most importantly, quick.

With that being said, Calendar Widget: Month will most likely bring a lot of joy and confidence in your task and event planning instead of dreading it.

Calendar Widget: Month is very similar to DAKboard, and the biggest advantage is the modern approach that still provides the essential features such as:

  • Manage activities
  • Schedule events
  • Add reminders
  • Keep a to-do list

Many other smaller yet significant features go well with the sleek display of events. With only a glance, you’ll know exactly what awaits you for the day or the week ahead.

I should also mention that Calendar Widget: Month can be synced with Google Calendar to quickly switch and track everything you need in a modern user interface with additional features such as quick browsing and push notifications.

Calendar Widget: Month is available as an app for Windows, Mac OS, iOS, and Android devices so you’ll have access to your calendar wherever you are.

10. DigiCal+

If you’re looking for more of a commercial calendar app with an advantage over DAKboard, DigiCal+ is a great option.

DigiCal+ is a digital calendar built for businesses, remote workers, and entrepreneurs to stay organized, as it allows you to easily keep track of all tasks, events, and notifications.

But why is DigiCal+ a great DAKboard alternative?

It’s a great alternative because of its unique features, such as:

  • Time management
  • Task management
  • Scheduling
  • Quick list management
  • Lunar calendar

These are just some of the features you won’t find in DAKboard, and you might even have a hard time finding them in other alternatives.

However, what I like the most about DigiCal+ is that these unique and useful features combine with a pretty and easy-to-use interface. You even get the chance to choose between 42 color templates.

You’ll also have a great adjustability and customization option as DigiCal+ features a couple of widgets and smart features, such as the search action bar that improves how you use your calendar.

It can take your regular calendar use to another level. This is true: businesses, professionals, or remote workers must stay on their game.

You can also sync it with all your existing calendars to simplify the transition.

Even though you can try a free DigiCal version, I recommend the DigiCal+ paid version. It unlocks all the modern and advanced features for only $4.99.

11. ActionTiles

ActionTiles is one of the unique web-based control panels. Not only can it help you keep a calendar with tasks and a to-do list so you know exactly what awaits you, but it goes a lot deeper than that.

ActionTiles allows you to keep an eye on both your schedule and the schedule of your home.

If you are a proud smart home or apartment owner, you can schedule smart home-related tasks with ActionTiles.

Therefore, ActionTiles can help you worry less if you have switched off the light and focus more on your daily tasks even when you aren’t home.

This is a different approach, but it is very suitable for professionals who rush through the door in the mornings and want to come home to a warm house when they’re done with work.

ActionTiles is very different from DAKboard, and since it takes a different approach, it’s hard to compare these two. However, I’m sure some people are trying their best to bridge the difference between digital and physical life.

You can use ActionTiles in your browser or order the official hub to place anywhere in your home. No matter which option you choose, you can schedule any work around your home into one calendar.

With one look at the ActionTiles calendar, you’ll know what needs to be done and what was done in your home.

ActionTiles offers a 14-day free trial; after that, you can get it for only $28.99.

12. Jorte

Finding a free DAKboard alternative can be tricky, but it’s not impossible. If that’s exactly what you’re looking for, Jorte is a great choice.

Jorte is one of the simplest digital calendar apps backed up with many features that make it different from a regular calendar.

Therefore, it’s a go-to digital calendar for personal use, professionals, businesses, and remote teams.

My favorite thing about Jorte is the customizable side menu. In the side menu, you can choose what to display from widgets such as:

  • Events
  • To-do tasks
  • Diary

There are also many other widgets you can use to track almost everything you have to do, whether it’s daily or monthly.

The biggest advantage of Jorte over DAKboard is the ability to set a countdown timer on any tasks you add to the calendar. This helps you meet deadlines or work under pressure but can also be a beneficial time-tracking feature.

Jorte’s calendar is available on almost all platforms for free, but there are also three different pricing plans which are worth upgrading to:

  • Jorte Premium – $2.99/month or $29.99/year
  • Jorte Plus – $3.99/month
  • Jorte Buffet – $1.99/month

13. Any.do (Google Calendar & Widget)

Any.do is one of the greatest DAKboard alternatives because it works on syncing all your devices and accounts into one place.

From there, you can organize your life, work, and business without missing out on anything.

On top of that, Any.do is ideal for organizing tasks or events with others by being able to easily share the plans, catch up, and keep communication open.

Any.do works with Google Calendar so if you’re a fan of Google Calendar, you can use it n addition to benefiting from more features. However, a widget version allows you to take full advantage of Any.do’s features.

Along with the attractive and simple calendar, many other parts help you stay organized that aren’t featured in DAKboard.

This includes a grocery list, reminders with timers, shared tasks, a daily planner, and a to-do list.

My favorite feature is the ability to keep track of the calendar and task list side by side so I know exactly what and when it needs to be done.

But one of the benefits everyone will like is compatibility. Not only can you integrate the Any.do calendar with Google Calendar or use it as a standalone widget, you can also use it with gadgets such as Amazon Alexa or virtual assistants such as Siri or Google Assistant.

However, the biggest advantage of Any.do is that it’s free to get started. The free version offers a lot, but the Premium version allows you to level up and benefit even more from Premium-only features for only $5.99/month.

If you decide to go annually, it’ll cost you only $2.99/month while a 6-month subscription will cost you $4.49/month.

14. Business Calendar 2

DAKboard is great but if you’re trying to keep your business tasks in order, you might be needing an alternative. Business Calendar is a great alternative because it is an option that is strictly focused on improving business organization and workflow.

Along with a regular calendar compatible with most devices and gadgets, you’ll also get access to advanced functions integrated directly into the calendar.

These functions are what separate the Business Calendar from DAKboard and make it a great alternative.

With these functions, you’ll be able to:

  • Manage regular activities (great for daily workflow)
  • Graphical presentations
  • Textual presentations
  • Stickers that increase productivity

I’m a big fan of the sleek interface that looks great. Its navigation is also very elegant and quick.

You will notice this by scrolling up and down, using a search function, switching between timelines, or simply syncing Google tasks into the calendar.

Business Calendar also features additional widgets, which are optional but also make great use for customization purposes.

That said, Business Calendar isn’t only a top-notch calendar that provides a great user experience to businesses but also a great all-in-one app that can eliminate at least three different business apps.

Managing workflow, increasing productivity, and keeping an eye on all operations while trying to manage personal life have never been easier.

Business Calendar 2 is available for iOS and Android, and it is free to use. Still, to avoid ads and unlock all features. I highly recommend switching to the Premium version, which only costs $6.98.

15. Dollarbird

Managing time is hard enough, but managing finances can be a deal-breaker for most people. Dollarbird uses a different approach than DAKboard, which makes it a unique alternative.

Dollarbird manages both tasks/plans and finances. This allows you to track and manage finances and even get help from AI features that will help you make sense of your finances, teach you how to budget properly and manage your money and savings.

On top of that, you’ll always be able to schedule tasks, events, and keep a to-do list so this is a two-in-one calendar app.

You’ll also be able to tie these two features into one so you can always visualize your transactions and tie your events or tasks from to-do lists with your spending.

Dollarbird will help you visualize your transactions. This will help you learn exactly how your money comes in and what happens to it throughout the month.

I like collaborating with my partner using the same account to manage mutual finances. This allows us to stay on top of each other’s finances.

Therefore, if you want to organize your day and finances, Dollarbird is a great personal finance calendar.

You can try out Dollarbird for free using the trial, upgrade to the Pro version for only $4.99/month, or the Pro Unlimited version for only $6.99/month.

Conclusion

As you can see, all of these are good alternatives to DAKboard. You can go through each of them and pick the one that suits your requirements the best.

One thing is guaranteed though, once you find the best DAKboard alternative, timekeeping and scheduling will never be an issue.
